I've always saved a trout carcasses - the head, spine and skin flaps left over from filetting - from a previous trip. I snap the spines, fold them over and wrap the spine and head up into a neat ball with the skin, place them in plastic bags and freeze. When you go to set the trap, they take a while to thaw, so they're like time-released. They seem to attract a lot of finfish. The down side is that, when left in the trap for more than about 12 hours, they stink to high heaven. I usually clean the trap at the carwash when I'm cleannig the boat to solve the stink.
