Thanks Brad (and congrats, DAD!!) ... but I'm heading home this evening. I've been fishing up here since ... hmmm ... about '67 or '68 ... usually below the dam when I was a kid, and we (cousins often here too) would usually end up with a lot of blacks and whites ... before the stripers took over. After that, the fishing below got worse except for stripers when water was coming out (or if you fish bait ... the cats). I have caught a few smaller ones early on a flyrod wading while the water is down, but not many once they start it flowing again. If I come to fish below the dam now, I bring a light surf rod and throw big plugs into the tailrace (out by the wall). Usually, this time of year, you can get at least a few fish up above the dam early and late when they push shad up into the shallower water and are up on top. Never anything like when I was a kid tho ... I can remember taking the boat out early and hitting areas where there would be literally over an acre of lake just boiling with whites ... you couldn't throw anything in the water and NOT catch fish on it ... LOL ... days long gone ...
