I've got an old (antique, actually .. these days) one that was given to me by an aunt a long time ago. Solid glass rod, wooden handle ... 30 lb class ... heavy metal ferrule attaching the 2 ... no clue if you can still find any made that way or not. I used it for a pier rod some when I was a teenager for kings, cobia, etc. in N.C. ... long since retired it tho.
