DMan makes good points there. Many times it's not that you are in the wrong spot, it is that you are fishing it in an ineffective manner. There are a lot of times I have fished right in the middle of an area with others, and am the only one((s) .. or me and my friends) catching many fish. I've also been on the wrong end of that stick (haven't we all at some point?? ... LOL). You just have to experiment and find what works for you. If you aren't catching, but you are seeing fish on your screen ... try as DMan stated, and go deeper ... and I certainly agree with always watching for activitiy on/near the surface ... when staying in the boat, I like to keep a rod with a topwater or floater/diver handy even when fishing plastics.

As for the youngster ... bait (dead shrimp, or squid ... I always found that the squid stayed on the hook better for them) on a small hook ... and some croakers or even pinfish or hardheads will usually keep them busy (and you unhooking them!!).
