I had a similar issue with my dad's trailer. Someone had wired a new connector on, and had the ground wire of the trailer connected to the brake light wire of the truck. In effect they had two separate wires hooked up to the brake lights. The turn signals worked fine until you stepped on the brake, and then you lost everything-until you released the brake. After I rewired, everything started working fine. Hope this helps
