... plus ... VERY important if you have any contacts around Midland.
An update from Ellis, and a special request:
We have raised a "point of order" that sent the bill back to committee. Best case - bill will die there Worst case - the point of order will be rejected and the bill will go back to the floor for a vote. But our emails and phone calls are getting some traction. There are a number of legislators who are coming around to our side. The bill seems to be in trouble. AS OF LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT: We really are down to the wire. House Speaker Tom Craddick has the power to seal our fate. But because we have gotten some last minute traction, we just may pull this one out. But only you can make it happen. Our core group has made so many calls they recognize our voices. The KEY is Speaker Tom Craddick from Midland. If you live in Midland, Dawson, Martin, Crane, or Upton county (not Odessa) you must call Craddick's office Thursday (432) 682-3000 .. Tell him you "oppose HB1603 and SB740" This is where the internet comes in. If you have a relative, school friend, ex-wife or anyone who lives in Midland, please send them an email and ask them to make ONE phonecall Thursday. If Craddick gets calls from his own district he will have a hard time ruling against us.
It's been hot & heavy in Austin.
It ain't over. I've been on the phone every day with legislators. If you haven't called. Make the call now. Maybe, with one more call, we put this one to rest and chalk up another win.
What this boils down to is that there is an additional amount of time to get comments in. If you did not send anything before, please do so now (you can send to Beachbills@Texasopenbeaches.org) ... and ESPECIALLY get hold of anyone you know in the Midland area who can make a call to Craddick!!
thanks,
Gary
