History of the Tournament

To understand the tournament's history, you have to understand the CCCF, which began in December of 1999 with a small (12) group of friends who met at Surfside Beach.  We decided to form a group of friends that could share their fishing experiences and advice, with no particular political agenda.  All 12 of these founders met each other over the internet, so it was a natural that the CCCF be internet-based.  The name was suggested by Surfrat (AKA John) and denotes our intention of "keeping it light".

In January, JawsBites (AKA Avik), threw out the suggestion that we plan another get-together and each pitch in $5.00 to keep it interesting.  We planned our little tournament for the 12th of February.    Imagine our surprise when major manufacturers got interested enough to donate some nice prizes, and we were even more surprised to have almost 60 entrants...almost as many as our total membership at that time.

Unfortunately, the weather was cold, and the fish didn't bite.  Still, we awarded all of the prizes, even though we had to have a drawing for quite a few of them.  A great time was had by all, and many of us formed firm and lasting friendships.

Well, we think the weather and the fish will cooperate better this time...so here we go again!

Bear in mind that this tournament is not about winning or losing...it's really not even about catching fish!  It IS about having fun and meeting friends.  Let's have a ball!

RULES OF THE TOURNAMENT

No Kayaks or Boats, you may only fish from the Surfside Jetty, the beach immediately north to the first beach house, and the small wade area immediately west of Jetty Park, staying in sight of the Pavilion (this area for 12 and under accompanied by adult only).

1.  All entries must be in and paid prior to the tournament start.  Entries need to be received by September 20th.  Please copy the ENTRY FORM and mail it to:

 N. R.  Lauderdale
23441 Joseph Drive
Porter, Texas 77365

2.  You must check in at the "Sign-in Table" which will be located in the pavilion under the Jetty Park Store.  The table will be in place 1/2 hour prior to sunrise.  Tournament volunteers will staff the table and will act as monitors throughout the day.  They will be wearing distinctive clothing so that you can recognize them.  They will also have scales and rulers, so that you can get verification of your catch before releasing it, which will be encouraged but not required for legal fish.  All fish must be weighed and measured before the end of the fishing portion of the tournament, which is at 3 PM sharp, and will be announced with the blast of a horn.

3.  All entrants must be in sight of the Tournament Director at 3 PM (the final horn)

4.  It is our intention to award all prizes and all money received will be spent on prizes and necessities for the tournament.  No money will go to any person involved with the tournament and this is strictly voluntary labor.  If there is no winner in a particular category, we will award prizes by "luck of the draw".  There is a limit of one prize per entrant.

5.  We will sound a horn 1/2 hour before the end of the tournament.  At the end of the tournament, we will award prizes and have a fellowship/get-together.  Some refreshments may be available, but each fisherman should plan on bringing his own refreshments, as plans aren't firm on this yet.

6.  All fish must be of legal size and species as published by the Texas Parks and Wildlife.  All entrants must possess a fishing license if required and may be asked to show it.

7.  A signup status sheet will be maintained on this web site.  To check on your entry status, simply click on SIGNUP STATUS.
